Hi, a couple of months ago i was talking to my mother in law and she said that it tore her apart when my husband broke up with his ex-wife, because of the children. I thought it was not very fair to share that with me and I said that sometimes divorce is a good thing. I also told her ins secret that i wished my parents got divorced when i was a child (there were reasons). Now I am sorry I said that, i feel like i betrayed my mom and dad. I dont want to apologise to them because of this, cause that will really upset that that i said that. I also dont want to speak to my mother in law about this again, because she probably already thinks i am stupid and at the end of the day it really is none of her business, i made a mistake by sharing this with her. I talked to my husband about that - he says that we all say stupid things and she probably forgot it. However I still feel guilty talking to my mom right now, but maybe some things are better kept secret and forgotten? Help!!!

I think you should try to learn what you can from it and move on

Okay first off you didn't betray your parents. If you thought they should have gotten divorce then maybe they weren't happy, maybe they felt the same way, but decided to make it work for you and if you have any siblings for them. If you decide to tell them about the converstaion, explain to them why you felt that way, I'm sure you will get answers, even if you weren't looking for any. If you are still feeling uncomfortable talking to your mother in law and feel as if she feels the same way, then you need to sit down with her and just explain it to her. Because avoiding it and acting like the conversation never happened isn't going to solve anything, it's always going to be there in your mind.

The way I see it is that you didn't say anything that was wrong. You just gave an opinion in defense of how sometimes divorce is a best option for the kids. You didn't say anything mean to your mother. I wouldn't feel guilty about it.

Listen to your husband and forget about it. You were feeling vulnerable and said something you normally wouldn't say. You were being honest, that's all. Remember, regret is the cancer of life. It can eat you up. Regret nothing and think before you speak.

Some things are better left unsaid! You are entitled to your opinion, and it's ok if you feel that way, but if you are feeling guilty about it , just think before you speak! I would'nt say anything to your mom, it may hurt her feelings!

Hey if that's how you feel, then that's how you feel. Unfortunately you can't take back what you said to your MIL, but you should not feel guilty for feeling the way you feel. Sometimes the way we feel hurts people's feelings...but they are still how we feel. Try not to be so hard on yourself.

Just forget you said anything to her. Your mom is better off not ever knowing you even had this discussion but you didn't do anything wrong.

it's something you wished as a child----it's in the past.

Let it go...you shouldn't have to apologize to them because of a feeling / thought you had when you were a child still
