If that's true, why would he want to play for the Knicks? The team hasn't made the playoffs in years. They're hamstrung by way too many long term, expensive contracts. And they lost more games than the Lakers while playing in a weaker conference. If he actually went there, he would be taking a huge step back basketball wise.
If Kobe's really serious about winning, why wouldn't he just ask for a trade to the Spurs or Mavericks?

Kobe is so focused on winning that he:
a. Helped (no matter what he says) run Shaq and Phil Jackson out of town.
b. Would not play hard for Phil.
c. Gave up in the '06 playoffs (where he scored 0 pts in the second half of their season-ender).
d. Has a max-contract, making it tough for whatever team has him to sign anyone else under the salary cap.
Other than that, I'd say he's committed to winning...
Guys like Jordan (who Kobe's often compared to) took waaay under market value contracts so their teams could sign better players. Do you think Kobe will give back 1 dime?

Like many things Kobe does, he says one thing and does something completely different. He wants to go to big-market New York because he wants to stay in the spotlight, sell lots of jerseys, make lots of commercials, and go to the joke that is the Eastern conference. He won't go to Dallas or San Antonio because there is not enough money down there and because then he might actually have to listen to the coach and share the ball.
