To Elliot L:

Yes, as a matter of fact! As much as I hate the Red Sox, I still have to say that you've got great players! (Not that the Yankees don't) But anyway, it's going to be a great all-star game this year!

A few years ago, it might have been hard for me to come up with a good answer to this, but my eyes have recently been opened. I am a life-long Sox fan who moved to NYC in 1986 to go to college, so I really entered the belly of the beast at a tough time. I've spent many nights and afternoons watching Sox/Yankees games in NY bars, talking trash with Yankee fans and having a great time; endless morning after dissections of games around the water cooler exchanging good natured barbs with Yankee loving co-workers. About three years ago I started spending months at a time in Scotland, and I can tell you this: the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry is absolutely sweet compared to the football rivalries over here. On game days in Glasgow, there are pubs full of Celtic fans and pubs full of Rangers fans, but they absolutely do not mix, and you can't get into a club after the game wearing team colors for love or money. A few weeks ago where I stay in Edinburgh, I was at my local (bar) and two guys beside me were talking, and suddenly one pulled out a box cutter and sliced the other's head open. Evidently it was his reaction to the other guy insulting Hearts FC.

So, after all that, here's my compliment to Yankee fans: you guys love the game, and treat the rivalry as it should be treated: as an enhancement to the game, not a personal insult. Oh, yeah, and one more thing-

Sox Rule! Yankees Suck!

Sorry. Old habits die hard.

Why in the world are you seeking compliments from the "stinkin Red Sox".....do you really think they mean it?......it sounds like a "fair weather Yankee Fan" ready to jump of the band wagon because we are what? 12 games behind!.....they have never been good "front runners" and will be caught by the Yankees....so get this question of the page and ask something great like....."who hates the Red Sox" or some thing like....."When will the Sox choke" or "Who will be the Buck "%$#!" Dent to the Red Sox this Year".......GO YANKEES! STINKIN RED SOX!!

Yes, during the 2003 Divisional Series between the Yankees and the Twins, I sat next to a fan from the Bronx for the games in Minneapolis. He was one of the most knowledgeable, friendly and courteous baseball fans I have ever met. He cheered wildly for his Yankees and showed great respect for an up and coming Minnesota team that was clearly over-matched.

In general, as a population, when you're not blustering about the Yankees (team or players) or somehow claiming that, by deciding to be Yankees fans, those 26 past championships (all in the previous millenium) make you a better fan, you tend to be broadly agreeable human companionship for short spans of time.

As a die hard Sox fan the only player I ever liked on the yanks was Don Mattingly. He worked really hard and played the game like it deserved to be played.

I don't want Red Sox fans to say anything nice about us because I don't have anything nice to say about Red Sox fans.

Of course there is.

Your team has produced many Hall of Famers.

You're team is probably the greatest sports dynasty.

It's only June, and you can still make a comeback.

Not all of you are horrible as people say you are.

Is there anything nice you can say about us?
