Since the game is in a NL Stadium with no DH available, then the person voted second behind Ortiz should start.Ortiz does not play 1B enough to qualify.

I agree, I don't care if it's in an NL Stadium with no DH. That's to damn bad, Ortiz can sit his butt out then. He plays 1B like what a couple of games each year during interleague play, that's not enough to make him a 1st baseman. So, yes the person who comes in 2nd in the 1B voting should be the starting one. They need to change it, no way should a full time DH be allowed to play a position other than DH at the all-star game.

While I agree with you to an extent, the American League All-Star team usually goes for power moreso than contact, somewhat contrary to the National League. Ortiz batting behind Ichiro and Derek Jeter is genious, in my opinion, if that's how the lineups will carry out. It's only three outs per inning, after all - if Ortiz makes a few blunders, Justin Morneau (assuming he hangs on, on the ballots), can take over. Either way, I'm really liking the chances of the A.L. All-Star team this year.

I just heard on the radio (in Boston) that Ortiz plans not to play in the All-Star game and instead is putting Kevin Youkilis' name on the ballot. Youk is having an outstanding year at first base. He played a bit at 3rd while on the road at NL opponents, but point here is that he is our starting first baseman. He is 92/275 (.335) this season with 8HRs, and 41RBIs. He is first among AL first basemen in both batting average and fielding percentage. Give this guy the starting spot... and if not, tell me why he doesn't deserve it.

Since there is no DH, then do you just not vote for them when the All-Star game is in a NL park.

Then how come when the All-Star game is in an AL park, someone is the DH on the NL side.

It's a bit of a joke considering that:

1- Ortiz has had 29 plate appearances at first base.
2- His teammate, who actually does play first on a regular basis (276 PA), is having an excellent season.

Another job well done by the fans.

He shouldn't be in the All star game. It's a NL ballpark and the DH shouldn't be allowed in. He only played 1st during interleague.

Technically, the DH isnt an official voting position, so yes, Big Poopie should start at first base.

no he shouldn't even be on the roster if they don't have a DH, he never plays for the AL. They should get rid of the DH make for real BASEBALL players, not just home run hitters.

Put Ortiz at shortstop.

That'll make the game entertaining. Not good baseball, mind, but certainly entertaining.
