I know how to use the semi-colon, comma, coordinating conjuctions and periods but I can get so confused. For example:
I can't wait to jump in the water looked so inviting.
semi-colon: I can't wait to jump in; the water looked so inviting
conjunction: I can't wait to jump in for the water looked inviting.

I cannot use a comma as it will be a comma splice. Can anyone help me? My main question is, is there only one correct way to separate each run-on or are there options for each run-on? If so, that means I can use any of the two ways right?

Both are acceptable. Just make sure that you use the semi-colon properly and that you choose the correct conjunctions.

The two examples you give are both correct. Other possibilities are: I can't wait to jump in. The water looked so inviting.
Because the water looks so inviting, I can't wait to jump in.

THere are options with every sentence. YOu could have even made that two seperate sentences. You could have said "I could not wait to jump in the water. It looked so inviting"

Both would be right, I personally would go with the semicolon.

THe larger problem in there is that you've got tense conflictions (can not and looked), and that's what's making it sound off.

The first sentence sounds more natural
