I agree. I'm all for the women tennis getting the same money if they played the same ammount of games. The fact that they play less is more sexist than paying them less, as it was brought in because it was believed women couldnt handle playing so long. Which is rubbish todays women tennis players are professional athletes and could last just as long as the men.

Tennis is an 'entertainment' sport. The amount payable should be in relation to the entertainment provided. However, we all know that this doesn't happen in any sport.
I beleive that there should not be pay disparity but until they play the same number of sets then maybe the pay should be less. However, the Womens Tennis Association would have to change its laws for this to happen.

I agree, they only play the best of three sets, whilst the men play the best of five. Plus, it's the mens event that draws in the big crowds and massive television ratings.
I saw a question on this site by Martina Navratilova a while back, she thinks that women should get the same prize money.

Your question started off being a good one but you spoiled it by saying that they are not willing to put the effort in.That is not the reason. The rules are set by the women's tennis federation and it is they who dictate how many sets they play,Until the rules are changed and they play the same number as men they can't' expect to get the same prize money.I speak as a non playing ,female, who watches both men and women's tennis.

If the entrance fee to their games costs the same as the entrance fee to the men's games, then, yes, they should earn the same amount of prize money. People are paying to see a spectacle. You do not get charged less to see a play that has three acts than one that has 5.
Now,if the price of a ticket to a women's match is cheaper than the price of a ticket to watch a men's match, then, of course, the women should not be getting equal prize money.

Yes they should...OK sometimes the matches are not as long, but have you seen Andy Roddick have a rally of more than 3 strokes....at least you have some good long rallies with women players. As for not being as entertaining, of course it is...the competion is far more fierce than in the mens game. All the other Grand slam tournaments have equal pay so why not Wimbledon.
Who will win the Ladies singles? Not sure are you?
Who will win the Mens singles...Roger Federer...no contest.

Well I would agree the amount of work put in should be the amount rewarded. So if thats not the case, then I dont see why woman tennis players should get extra!!!!!

You've got a point, but the female players don't control how many sets they play- so I don't think they should be paid less than the male players.

Personally, I think they should have to play 5 sets. Women do deserve equal pay... for equal work.
