That's awesome that you are willing to donate, as certainly not all Tahoe residents are wealthy! In fact, many locals live in apartments and attend the community college.
Donations are being accepted at the American Red Cross Sacramento/Sierra Chapter. Their website address is http://www.sacsierraredcross.org/

now why on earth would you want to do something that drastic in your life? have you ever heard much about the tahoe basin? you have to be pretty wealthy to live there. and look at the pictures carefully. do you realize that what is making this fire so bad is the dried underbrush that has been accumulating for years. why might you ask was nothing done to relieve the fire danger? just look to the nearest eco freak you can find and that person is responsible for this fire being so great. federal money has been earmarked for several years to thin the trees and in so doing make logging roads that can act like a fire break. even the federal government won't go against the wishes of the eco freaks because they yell the loudest. well this fire is a prime example of how not to listen to your friendly eco freak. the home owners in this area are just as bad as the eco freaks in that they want the government to keep their properties clear so that their homes are made a little safer. instead of writing a check you should be writing your reps in washington and tell them to get off their big behinds and get some back bone about them. most of the home owners have insurance that will more than cover their loses so save your money and if you want to waste it send it to me care of mister doodles.

You can donate to the Red Cross with a memo stating you want it used for disaster relief for the Angora Fire in Tahoe.
As for all of you saying that everyone up there is rich and insurance will replace their belongings, your response is ignorant and wrong. There are people that live there who work 2 jobs to afford to live in Tahoe. Retired people who saved for years and bought a place in Tahoe who arent rich. So get your facts straight before you go spouting off on topics that you know nothing about.
Besides even if they are rich did they deserve to have their lifes possessions burned? Last I checked insurance didnt cover lost heirlooms and such items. It is ridiculous to say these people need no help, they deserve help as much as anyone else and I can't believe because they may have money they deserve to go it alone.
People work hard to get where they are in life and just because they may have done well for themselves is no reason to deny them help. You all are not only jealous but cold hearted and ignorant.
I live near Tahoe and know alot of people up there who are far from rich and did not " Deserve " to have this happen. In closing I can only say that if a similar tragedy were to happen to you that your community is more willing to help than you are.
Just wanted to add that the Tahoe Regional Planning Association is alot of the reason they had pine needles and such in their yards its in their by laws that you must have your ground covered with pine needles or grass.

the american red cross is the best place for financial donations...several local businesses are also collecting other types of donations. (clothes, toys, etc.) for those that are under the impression that everyone in tahoe is rich...that's quite a misconception. many of the vacation homes are owned by wealthy people...but the areas most affected by the fire are average families working hard to keep up with the high cost to live there. regardless of income...seems like a bad reason to punish people...what happened to helping others in need without placing conditions on generosity.? hope if ever in need you run into people more kind.

I agree with lisa m.
I used to visit Lake Tahoe when I lived in San Francisco, and most of the people who live there are rich.
I am sure that almost everyone who's home was destroyed had insurance.
You can write a check to whoever you'd like, but as for me, I have my own expenses and bills to worry about first!

If they can afford to live in Lake Tahoe, chances are they don't need your money.

What about the people who are called to go on strike teams to go fight the fire-- what about their families?? Send us money for taking our firefighters away to go fight a fire that has nothing to do with us or our community. Not only is it dangerous, its time away from home, but a loss in wages!!!

Do you mean for their two and three million dollar homes, so they can rebuild up there and, it can burn down again next year, right?
