No, I'm not baiting and I am a conservative. But I am constantly in wonder that true conservatives support this party that has stabbed us in the back, sacrificed our sovereignty and just plain doesn't listen to it's constituency. I am amazed. Is it because no one feels there is another viable party?

Havenone.......Yeah....I'm a liberal!! ROFLMMFAO!!! Maybe you're not as conservative as you think. I'm a far right conservative Independent, (I left the Repubs when SPP, Trans-Texas Corridor, NAU, Amnesty and the rest of Bushes Plans started selling us out) Maybe you need to take the blinders off and start questioning decisions made instead of being one of the sheeple.....

Conservatives have no other options but to stay in the Republican party if they want their voices even acknowledged. I agree with you that they have done nothing but turn their back conservative values. However the system is set up so that a 3rd party cannot compete. The electoral system is about how much money you can raise, not about ideas. And ideas is what we certainly need right now.
There is another party, the Libertarian party. The Libertarian party has the most progressive, American ideals of all parties. However it seems that Republicans and Democrats are afraid of a party that demands less government. This would require less power for Washington to rule our lives.
All I know is that neither of the big two political parties have upheld the fine ideals that the founding fathers of this great country had in mind. Liberty is the only ideal that we should embrace, all other will follow after liberty!

We act like abused spouses, don't we? The GOP does all these unconservative things (spend spend spend, spread democracy by the sword, more layers of government ie the TSA) and we keep coming back for more by voting for them.
There has been some discussion of Libertarianism in these answers and I think that's great. Unfortunately the Libertarian meetings I've been to have been less about winning elections and more like Ayn Rand wrestling seminars. I've seen better-organized riots. Libertarians would rather be philosophically pure than win elections. Even in Idaho where I live, home of Ruby Ridge and Bo Gritz, there are no Libertarians elected to office. We have Constitution Party elected officials at the county level, but no Libertarians which are a larger party. I don't have any hope the Libertarians will get us out of this mess.
The bottom line is if you're a conservative and you want to win elections, where else are you going to go? I certainly don't have a home in the Party of Death, the pro-abortion Democrats. I think there is hope in Ron Paul, and I hope you've taken a look at him.
This has been an all-over-the-place answer, but I'm glad you asked the question! Blessings & good luck.

As a conservative, I vote for issues and candidates and I am not affiliated with any party, though most of the candidates I vote for are Republicans.
In the current system, it is extremely difficult for any third party to obtain the same level of support as the 'big two' in any State or Federal race. Laws have been enacted by both major parties to keep it that way.
I think that the only way to see the kind of change that conservatives want is to have conservative candidates flood the ballot with their names.
I find it very ironic that both Republicans and Democrats in office are worried about Talk Radio. I assume that these elected leaders are worried about Talk Radio because it has the power to shine a very bright light on the real need for change for government to truly *represent* the people in the Republic we live in.

Good question. I think it is because of the lack of viable alternatives to use to attempt to gain power. Liberterians have been unable to get a realistic share of an election and until they are accepted as a real alternative, there are only 2 parties. The Dems have been co-opted by the extreme left and are beholden to them, so where else can they go? The conservatives need to regain their control of the Republican party and return to true conservative policies and values.

the majority of the members are right its just the leaders, you elect who are going left.I say you because I have to leave the party im frustrated, Buchanan, Keyes good men, and others have been marginalized in favor of these rinos. Im not a true conservative im a pragmatist. but I believe the Goldwater, Reagan, Helms example is the way to lead and govern.

What other party do you think would work better for conservatives like yourself?
Perhaps conservatives could create their own third party, more conservative than the Republicans.
