A day after conservative commentator Ann Coulter said she wished Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards had been killed by terrorists, his wife asked her to stop the personal attacks.

Elizabeth Edwards called the MSNBC program "Hardball with Chris Matthews" Tuesday during an appearance by Coulter, who claimed Edwards was calling on her to stop speaking altogether. And she questioned why Elizabeth Edwards was making a phone call on behalf of her husband.

While appearing on ABC's "Good Morning America," Coulter was asked about a March speech in which she used a gay slur to refer to Edwards, adding that if she was going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, she'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.

I really cannot stand Ann Coulter, and its people like her that really give the conservatives (who I agree with some of their ideals) a really weak base. She may be offensive for entertaining purposes and that is fine but hate speech?

"Pretty sad a man has to have his wife come out to defend him", and of course, if he had gone after Coulter himself, you wouldn't be saying, "How dare a man pick on a woman"?

Anyone who defends Ann Coulter's comments defends ALL her comments, such as the ones when she referred to the widows of rescue workers on Sept 11 of being "tragedy junkies", or referring to a Presidential candidate as a (gay slur). That brand of hate aint selling too well anymore, are you SURE you want to be standing in Coulter's corner when something she says is finally taken seriously?

She adds nothing but hate to the National Debate and I for one feel her 15 minutes were up 15 years ago. If there is an assassination attempt on Edwards and it can be proved the would-be assassin had heard Coulter exhort someone to kill Edwards, Coulter should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Enough is enough. Her brand of nonsense should be Content Rated to make sure children cannot hear her rants.

Yes; it's about time Coulter got knocked down a bit, and Elizabeth Edwards has the integrity to do it.

Coulter is a disgrace as a writer; relying on sensationalism and nationalism. She plays to her own fan base like any other celebrity.

She's Howard Stern in a dress and heels and deserves no respect as a writer or spokesperson.

Broadcasters are now making careers out of being hateful, aggresive, and vulger. Coulter made fun of the Edwards losing a child, is there no more decency left in our culture? The Fairness Doctrine needs to be rivived people, free speech yes, hateful speech, no.

She is wishing death upon Edwards for what reason again?

Ann Coulter, like RLP, are the scum of this earth. They are poison to society.

Good for Elizabeth Edwards. Ann Coulter is in denial and out of touch with reality. She truly believes that her views are the views of mainstream America.
Good luck selling any books now, Ann.

Elizabeth Edwards had every right to call and defend her family. Saying that a political figure or official should be assassinated is WAY, way out of line. It is not a joke. Demented people take cues from statements such as Coulter's.

Ann Coulter is a total disgrace. I refuse to watch her. She has nothing intelligent or pertinent to say and her banter is just a rant of hatred and ugly things to say. I wonder if she has ever shut her mouth long enough to listen to anyone else. The woman needs a muzzle because she is like an out of control rabid rottweiller. I don't think that anything Elizabeth Edwards said would make one bit of difference. Ann Coulter has no redeemable human value. It amazes me that people actually pay for her books and to hear her speak. It just goes to show how hard up America is for entertainment.
Someone needs to tell Ann that silence is golden and she should learn when not to speak. She must have a really ugly soul to be able to come up wtih things she does. You know, someone like her is safe from terrorists......they could not stand to listen to her ugly mouth.

She was GREAT! It's about time someone challenged that monster! I'm amazed that Chris Matthews continues to have her on to promote her books. But I guess that's just business as usual for the media types... It's all about money and ratings.. As that famous philosopher, Michael Douglas (Wall Street), once said: GREED, for the lack of a better word, is GOOD!

You have to take this in context. This was said at a time when the left and Democrats were having all sorts of fun and joking around with a REAL but failed terrorist attempt against Dick Cheney....Remember?

That was all good and fun, until Ann Coulter made the SAME
"joke" about a Democrat...

what does that telll you?

Yes I am proud of her and I also find it telling that the conservatives are spending so much time attacking Edwards, the third place candidate. I think that they see him as a real threat and maybe Dems better start taking a second look at him.

As to the slurs above from Ret: Well it always seems to me that those who spend a lot of time accusing other people of being gay usually are themselves. So come on out of the closet and feel better about yourself Ret
