No, they don't judge MVP as to being the best player on the best team. They judge MVP to how important he is and how big a factor he is to his team.

Steve Nash won back-to-back MVP because he kept the team together. Wit hhis outstanding passing skills and court vision, he gets everybody involved and enabled the Pheonix Suns to get past teams smoothly in the season. Without Nash, Pheonix would be a very different team than they are now. Steve Nash led his team and provided the much needed-playmaking in the team. He adapted not just himself but the whole team to the fastbreak-run-and-gun style of the Pheonix Suns. He made it easy for everybody. He basically gave the team direction. So let him be with his two MVP awards.

Put Nash in Detroit and they would win 60+games in a season. Put Billups in the Suns and that would change their style of play with the common slow and bruising style of plays with a lot of pick and rolls and far less fastbreaks which would make other Suns players little uncomfortable since they're at best when they're running and gunning.

Detroit wins by team effort. Everybody does almost balance efforts for the team to win and it's not all Billups. He is of course, a key for the Detroit Pistons and he does a good job every season but other players might be more-deserving for the MVP award since Billups gets a lot of help.

But I disagree with Dirk winning it this year. The Mavs are really good (in the season) and it's not just because of him. He got a lot of help from Josh Howard, Jason Terry etc.

Did you forget how awesome and amazing Steve Nash is?

You may feel that Chauncey is slightly underrated but Steve Nicety deserved the MVP for those last two years.

I'm not exactly sure about the voting criteria that the NBA uses when voting on an MVP candidate. Cause in my opinion, Kobe should have won MVP instead of Dirk. He had an amazing season. The only thing is Kobe plays with sub-par talent and plays for a losing team; otherwise he would have been a guaranteed shoe in.

For the "opposite" reason that Wade won't win it. Wade has the stats yet no group. Chauncey has the group yet no longer the stats. I recommend, 19 & 6 in simple terms isnt sufficient for MVP, no longer whilst Kobe is 28 and 5 and LeBron is 28, 7 & 7. i will work out the place you're coming from with Chauncey, considering he's probable in simple terms as substantial to his group as Kobe and LeBron, yet he does not publish the stats that they do. The MVP is an award that the electorate will supply to somebody with the huge stats and a winning group. i be attentive to Nash won it without being a real scorer, yet he became 10+ dimes a recreation, 6 isn't something particular, noticeably for a PG.

Nash is like Billups on crack man! Did u ever see Nash play? Or are you a biased Det fan that only watches Det play?? Its not always given to the best player on the best team...it may if the team was that good b/c of the one player...but the pistons werent that good just b/c of billups.

Because Billups doesn't have the ability to take over a game. Sure he makes solid decisions and has solid shooting but he cannot be in a situation where his team needs him in crunch time and scores at will. His biggest obstacle is the fact that he plays on a team surrounded by very good although not superstar caliber players.

The MVP is not always the best player on the best team. The Nash selection is just right.

steve nash was the mvp and to say other wise is crazy. there is not one more important person to their team then him. so to all those who picked dirk i hope your happy you picked a non defense playing coward who cant step up when his team needs him. he said he didnt want the ball for the last shot if it was up to him, right there people should have known he was a fake.
