Ok, it is more then definatly the chicken. Astronauts didn't come around until the 1900's.
But, you want something random, the astronaut!!!!!!!!!! Maybe he'll take the chicken to space!!!!!!

both and neither: the chicken is the astronaut, otherwise why is he fleeing his planet? exactly. cowardice. Hold on, then that means he's a cow...damnit!
By the way I have found out how to invent a hovering machine by using two cats, some sellotape, and of course, a washing up liquid bottle. Simply tape the cats back to back and then tape on the washing up liquid bottle for 'special effects' and throw it off a building.
The result? Cats always land on their feet, but if they're taped back to back then that means one of them can't, so as a result they will both hover between claws face up and claws face down, and thus, hovering. Try it out it works!

Neither Came first
There is a planet out there called Gorchix and one day about 100million years ago Enn(hero warrior of Gorchix) went to fight of an enemy who lured him away from his home plant while on a chase up there in space Enn was ambushed and he had to evacuate his ship so he put his special suit on and crash landed on a semi-deserted planet....you guessed it he landed here on earth.
Now with him Enn had two creatures that he used to pilot his aircraft that he took with him as he landed on earth. A wanderer had seen him and his two creature and inquired about them, all bruised and nearly dead the Wanderer only understood these word coming out of Enn".....Chix....Enn"and there Enn died and the wanderer took these cretures with him and told the story to his village and they named the creatures Chicken(not knowing that Enn was trying to say "My Planet is Gorchix and my name is Enn"

i was going to say the latter,with my reasons for doing
so. But you said that"this is going to be a long day";
So id say this-if a reasonably, happy person was told they had terminal cancer then that would likely make it a long
day for them too;initially. For towards the end(and if painfree)
they would know that the days were too short,like their
lifespan.
