Because people usually scan their slides first using an LPO. When they find something interesting, they focus with a higher objective.

I've never heard that before. On what objective we keep our lenses depends largely on what the scope is used for. Microbiology keeps the scopes on 100X. I keep ours on LPO because of different sized specimens.
