You can get McAfee anti-virus + anti-spyware + firewall legally and for free here:
http://www.natwest.com/microsites/personal/latest_deals/index.asp?referrer=online
Just scroll down to where 'McAfee' has been advertised, click there to go to McAfee's website...you will have to register (completely free) and you get the McAfee VirusScan Plus software subscription for a year.

You cannot download McAfee free legally unless you download a trial version. Below are some free AV products you may want to consider.
AVG 7.5 AntiVirus (Vista Compatible)
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
Avast Home Antivirus (Vista Compatible)
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
AntiVir PE (Vista Compatible)
http://www.free-av.com/
( Note: Only use one anti-virus product. Running more than one can cause conflicts thus rendering each ineffective.

You have to pay for mcafee (and its crappy) use AVG its free and works well http://www.grisoft.com
Your first link doesnt work Jibbarjabbar.
I would only use something that I have tested myself in lab for a few months and AVG does much better than McAffee. The only thing it doesnt pick up as well is spyware because its designed for virii.
Another good recommendation is that you dont use that antivirus as its "redesigned" by AOL. AOL only developes bloatware (software that eats system resources).

I like Active Virus Shield. A lot. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, Active Virus Shield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
Full test chart is here:
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82
Active Virus Shield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb ram)
Active Virus Shield detects and removes spyware, also.
And it updates up to 15 times a DAY with new virus definitions, 7 days a week!
Good stuff, free for everyone from:

I don't suggest using McAfee, because it has a very TIMED freeware. AVG allows you to keep scanning even if you are past the freeware trial days.
AVG also updates everyday, so you know that it has all the best equipment to fight off viruses.
Hope it helps. Good luck.

McAfee isn't free.
You need to install (free): ONE Anti-virus (delete others, I use AVG free), ONE Firewall (Zone Alarm), and these 5 Anti-spyware tools: Windows Defender, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and cCleaner.
I use all regularly. Google for them, install them and learn how to use them (HINT: Use the Help TAB).

you could also go to housecall.antivirus.com, and run a free online-based scanner. Its good for those people who want to keep performance on their machine high, and not have to deal with an AV program
