The night before I found out I was pregnant, I had four beers. I had NO idea I was pregnant! (I am now 28 weeks pregnant and everything is going great. All tests on the baby have come back normal.) Many, many women have been are are in this same situation. The important thing is to stop now. Your doc can give you a better explanation on why it will be okay, but he/she will say it will be okay.

There was at least one instance where I was downright wasted (five or six beers; None of the light, none of them domestic) before we learned of my pregnancy. I was freaked out. Very freaked out. It took a lot of praying before I calmed down and realized that this was baby was a blessing and a gift regardless. I didn't know I was pregnant. If I did, I would not have had anything. My doctor has been worried that my baby is too small. However, I'm also tall and not showing as quickly as others might and my husband and she has had some discrepency as to how far along I really am. (My doctor thinks I'm now at 28 weeks, my husband thinks I'm at 26. I just know that by Sept. 1, my bag will be packed and in the front closet.)

Anyway, don't fret. I know it's easier said than done. My baby isn't even born yet (this is our first), and I've already had many moments of guilt of things I don't think I'm doing right. While I'm not walking (for which I've felt guilty), I do eat a mostly whole foods diet, and doing organic when I can. Yet, there have been days where I've had plenty of calories, but lacking in nutrients. Yet, to see and feel this little creature kick, I'm assured that she's going to be fine.

More than likely NO. Many women will have an occasional drink(s) and then they found out that their pregnant. As long as you don't drink heavily on a reg. basis, you should be fine. Today, pregnant women are discouraged in taking so many things, even down to the chewing gum that you might enjoy!! The first 3 months of pregnancy are the most crucial as the baby is developing CNS ( Central Nervous System-IE: Brain ). So, now that you know that you are pregnant, avoid alcohol. I hope that this helps you!! Good Luck with the pregnancy !!

I did this one as well-my other half threw me a surprise birthday party when i was 3 weeks pregnant and believe me when I say I went on a bender all weekend I'm not kidding.

I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks, when I was a week overdue in my period, and was REALLY worried about the baby, so I asked my GP about it, who told me that at the time the baby was an embryo and wasn't even out of the fallopian tube yet. (The embryo becomes a fetus in the womb at around 5 weeks) and that during this time, it would not have harmed the baby at all.

This was coupled with the fact that I wasn't a regular drinker (I don't drink large amounts on a regular basis.)

Based on the advice I was given, I would say your baby is nie out of ten fine, but don't drink heavily during pregnancy.

And....in closing....when I asked my doctor about what safe levels of alcohol are, she said that one small glass of wine a day is safe, but NO more than this. I've not drunk since I found out I am pregnant (well, last weekend at a barbecue I had the weakest glass of wine and lemonade and was nearly sick, lol!) and i'm 31 week pregnant.

My baby is absolutely fine, and is NOT at risk of FAS.

I did the same thing. We went out after our volleyball game on a Wednesday night and I had a lot to drink. Then Thursday morning I woke up and had a bad hangover...which I never usually get. So I took a pregnancy test and guess what I was pregnant. My doctor said it would be fine and he was right. I had a beautiful healthy 9lbs 14oz boy. He is now 17 months old and as healthy as can be. Don't worry about it. Worrying can cause stress and that could give you a harder pregnancy.

i never found out i was pregnant with my first daughter (who is now a healthy 5 year old) until i was 12 weeks i had periods and everything seemed normal till my periods stopped at that three month point! up until then i was out every weekend with the girls also in the army so had lots of block parties with LOTS of drink involved and i smoked like a trouper!! admittedly i felt really guilty when i found out i was pregnant and the thought that i had harmed my unborn child was my biggest fear however i went on to have a perfect pregnancy (if u can call getting big perfect haha) and had a healthy 6lb 3oz girl the day before my due date! i had no complications during labour and she is now a little star and top of her class at school for reading so dont believe everything a book tells you!!! good luck im sure u will be fine!!

I drank quite a bit before I found out I was pregnant. I told my doctor and she said that was fine. I was about 3 weeks when I found so she said that I stopped drinking before it could have done damage.

Nope. Doctors really don't know for sure exactly how much alcohol it takes to damage a baby, that's why they tell us to avoid it completely, but statistics are pretty reliable - amongst pregnant women who consume an average of less than one drink a day while pregnant, there are no measurable long term effects. Those two margaritas are way, way less than one drink a day for nine months, no matter how giant they are.
