Yes mine didn't but 'is it' is not a questioning word it is a phrase - I suppose I could have put Why do questioning words begin with Wh - and how many (apart from how) can you list that don't.

No, these words have their roots in old / medieval english, old germanic, and Goth languages. ironicallly their roots are / include:
Where: wher hwār hvar
What: hwæt, hvat, hwa
Why: hwī, hwy
so that many of them started with an 'h', often followed by a 'w', instead of their present form.

The words came over with Anglo-Saxons and the German words all start with W as well.
