Ideally, it should be able to cross over. I'm very familiar with gay hip hop, mostly due to my partner. Right now the rap scene would eat any openly gay rapper alive, but I would like to think that it could go mainstream. I love rap, but not all rap music and not every rapper. If someone doesn't like lyrics or something else, don't buy it...it's very simple.

You know, sometimes I wish Missy Elliot and Da Brat would just "come out" already!!

I don't know about gay hip hop becoming mainstream, but maybe gay r&b. Jessica Betts , which is the winner of The Road to Stardom, is pretty good. I have a few friends that sing amazingly and are working toward that goal, mind you they are all lesbians.

and....who can forget my fav Me'Shell N'degeocello??!!

No. People are far too homophobic. The gay community is a lot smaller than the general population and very divided in musical tastes. Look at "nemesis", a pop duo, who got a lot of press initially. But, as gay men, they are now relegated to playing small clubs and pride festivals.

Let's hope not.

I stopped listening to a lot of this commercial "pop" music years ago anyway. Good pop died with the end of the 70's IMO
