You first have to retrieve the code that is stored in the climate controller as you say it is flashing. That means there is an electronic circuit problem in the temp. control part of the system. The codes that this is looking at are the outside ambient temp sensor and wiring, the inside temp sensor and wiring, and the feedback from the temp door actuator on top of the HVAC ductwork inside the dash. I can't help you until you get the code and that will tell you which circuit has had it. Good luck.

Intermittant cooling suggests that the R-134 Refrigerant is running low. Suggest an inspection for leaks throughout your car. If no leaks are found, go to an A/C shop and have all the refrigerant evacuated to at least 29 inches of Mercury. Then recharge the system with fresh R-134 refrigerant to the proper pressures and check all componets again for leaks.
