I think its just cause it looks cute, they are making baby clothes resemble grown up clothes, and so therefore, they make tiny pockets on them, to look real, doesnt mean they're there for a functional reason...

I've often wondered this myself! My daughter was once given a a coat as a present which had a pocket on the back. Now seeing as she spent most of her time at that age lying on her back, that one really puzzled me!

Me and my pregnant friend went shopping the other day and noticed the same thing. It's just the look that's in right now, which has been extended to baby's fashion.

Cause pockets are adorable. It's not for function or anything, just cuteness factor.

Ok, they don't really have a function, but if they are on a shirt, I used to clip my son's pacifier to it. I never like clipping it to his collar because the clip would scratch his face. And there is the cuteness factor, too.

I think it dates back to Victorian times when they carried tobacco in them.
Toward the end of the second world war they were used for snuff and this is where the nursery rhyme comes from. 'Atishoo,Atishoo, we all fall down.
