By killing off insects that would destroy crops food production is greatly increased. Also, pesticides can be used to kill disease carrying insects. It has been said that DDT helped the allies win WWII. DDT was used to keep disease carrying insects off of ally soldiers.

They not only contribute to human health but they are detrimental also.
The determination would be to assess the percentage of good to bad.
Too much medicine can kill you.
