I have been estranged from my husband for just over a year. My current partner & I would like to get engaged - is this possible?

Engaged.. sure. there is nothing leagally binding in an engagement. You just can't get married..

You can get engaged while you are still married and living with your spouse. An engagement is only a promise to wed sometime in the future, just be single by the time you say your vows.

Of course it is. Engagement is not a legal thing. It is a statement of intent between two people that they will eventually marry. When your divorce is finalised you will be free to marry your current partner.

You can get engaged because it isn't legally binding but you cant get married until you get divorced but if your thinking of getting engaged i would start divorce proceedings so you can show you are serious and have a fresh start.

Of course as it is just you accepting his offer of a future marriage. Once your divorce is complete then you can marry him, but as the engagement is not actually a legal contract then of course you can.

an engagement is a declaration of intent. It has very little status in law.

yes I was still married and got engaged to my husband, funnily enough the morning after our engagement party my decree absolute came through the post.
That was 15yrs ago and now we are happy and married for 11 yrs.

Married women cannot get engaged. See a lawyer, get a divorce. Hopefully this time you made better choices.
