Can i display a scottish flag and some text (across the bottom) on a number plate?

I am looking to get a private plate and want to have scotland flag on it along with some writing along the bottom. I know you can have the GB flag (eu type thing) but can i legally have the scotland one?

Strictly it is illegal as a UK plate should only have the EU symbol and GB on it. There are plenty of people out there with SCO and the Scottish flag who seem to get away with it for the time being. The legal way would be to have the normal GB and stars on blue rectangle but then get a Scottish flag sticker to put beside the plate and and text you want on a text strip below the plate. Some cars take a plastic mount larger than the actual plate which could accomodate all of this on one "large plate look-alike".

I not sure exactly. Many people can fly another country's flag as a sign of respect. Even the U.S. Navy has done this. There are certain things that are done in respect. So, I not sure writing on their flag is respectful as you deface it. Below is a link that may help, but, I guess you can do whatever as this a plate and not a flag;
