The rear screen is not a testable item, they should not fail it for that..28 years a tester

Yes of course it does!
You don't say how yours got to be missing / damaged?
It is usually expensive to replace, but have you thought of getting in replaced via your Insurance Company?
They will have a list of recommend repairers (Autoglass and the like), who will come out and fit it on-site. If for any reason you can't claim, why not go to a scrap yard and buy the screen, but again contact Autoglass (or similar) and get them to fit it?
Job done, legal again and you can get that dreaded MOT!

Agree with alan j.
Don't put a board there or it will fail. Take it minus the glass and it should pass. If the examiner fails it, ask to see the section which says there has to be a glass fitted.

I think you know the answer - I imagine any reputable garage will refuse to take it for an MOT test until the glass is fixed

deffinatly think you would need the glass fitted before the mot, dont think they would let you put a board up coz it would affect your vision and there pretty stricked on that now.
