I learnt to type on my vtech laptop when I was about 4 years old. Not as fast and well as I do now, but that's where it all began!! xx

in the school I work in, students are taught keyboarding from grade 3 up.
I learned to type in grade 9 many moons ago (70's).
I touch type when I get going I can type about 90wpm. The fastest test I've had is 105.

I avoided those classes and substituted woodshop, and drafting. I finally learned to touch type using the Mavis Beacon PC course about 10 years ago. I could type decently by looking, but when I had to type from copy, I was bad. So, I self-taught..well, me and Mavis.

I think that it used to be the norm. I learned that way too, but I never hear about anybody having to do it anymore.

I don't remember if it was 7th grade or high school but I remember it was required. Glad I took it now.
