If Chris really did do this to his family then all respect for him that i had has certainly disappeared. Yes he was a great wrestler, yes he was a great entertainer etc etc etc but that doesnt necessarily make him a nice person now does it. None of us on here knew him personally, none of us knew anything about his personal life other than what he let us know. I think we all need to wait and see what is said for definate by police etc although having just read the Wikipedia page on him i think its pretty cut and dried now!! (and yes before anyone asks i was a fan of his!!!!!)

KOLO - i wasnt praising him for murder!! read it properly next time!!! i respected what he USED to do in the ring NOT what he has apparently done to his family (and if you notice that was in the past tense as i said if this is true then all respect will be gone)

Brandon - thanks for the answer, i have just looked on the NBC news site which i believe is quite respected in america and they have exactly the same info on there including a video of the police explaining exactly what seems to have happened

Alot of people have answered and said wait until you know the details etc etc. This is exactly what i said in the question wasnt it? I said i would lose respect IF it is proved that he has done it not that i have lost respect for him right away. And even if he did have some kind of depression or illness is that really any reason/excuse to take someone elses life especially that of a child?

OMG I just heard about this: It's just too awful for words to describe. If he really did this, then he was seriously messed up. Did he do steroids? Steriods can make a person have uncontrollable rages and could cause a person to be delusional and paranoid. It's just so terrible.

Every monster has a redeeming quality. His wrestling career will prove to be his. And unfortunately it is now looking more and more like there's no way he didn't do it.

Hitler killed millions. That overshadows the interstate-like system he put in place in Germany which allows it to be a booming country with an economy to speak of today. And he did other great things.

But I think you mean on a personal level. That being the case, yes. I lost all respect for him as a human being (not as a wrestler).
Greg Valentine is an aloof asshole. But he's a wrestling legend. I do not respect him as a human being, but as a wrestler.
Benoit's actions will forever deface his in-ring abilities and legacy as a wrestler and I really can't complain. There's really not much worse he could have done... I'm just hoping they're able to determine that it was some sort of acute psychotic attack. That would give him about 0.00001% redemption in my eyes, I suppose.

Oddly enough, there's some strange coincidence that no other person has pointed out thus far. His former tag team parter Bif Wellington was found dead on the 24th of June... I'm sure it means nothing but its still an interesting bit of trivia. The two were often compared in styles and looks.

You shouldn't really lose respect for someone so quickly until you know the full details. I am in no way justifying his actions, but he obviously had major issues and could have been suffering depression, had a mental illness...who knows.. There are always reasons why ppl do these tragic things, and maybe he didnt have the right support network to get him through whatever it was that tipped him over the edge.

I believe everyone deserves some compassion - you just dont know what he was going thru...suicide touches so many lives..affects so many families - it saddens me deeply that he had to take his wife and son with him..

i dont know if all that is said in the media and over the net is true or false, but i do know that a great wrestling legacy has come to an end.
no matter what ppl say u cant discount the fact that he was a great wrestler
as per reports it seams to me as though benoit had a fight with his wife for some reason and in a fit of rage killed her, he later realised what he had done and knew his son was mentally ill and would not be taken care of properly if he went to jail and so decided in the best interest of the kid to kill him, and later out of guilt and depression killed himself.
all said and done i really liked benoit as a wrestler and to me he will always be one of the best wrestlers ever

Hey Wendy,

Definitely do not respect him outside of the wrestling ring. It just seems like such a crazy thing- that i'm waiting to hear the details: the guy probably has some other issues that haven't been uncovered. But it's just a terrible, terrible, thing to do and i hope that those surrounding his family and his wife's family can recover from this in time.

I have always had and always will have total respect for his athletic and technical ability - he was potentially the best technical wrestler of his generation (although Bret Hart ran him close)

I dont know WHY he did what he did .. maybe mental issues, maybe just evil but as I dont know I wont comment.

All I can say is that as a long time fan of the WWE he will be sorely missed and I would like to extend sympathy to his family and friends at this time :(

I can't believe that this has happened. My heart goes out to the Benoit family how must they be feeling now that Chris killed his wife and son, then himself, if he wanted to die why didn't he just kill himself and not Innocent people. I used to like Chrish Benoit the wrestler but as a man he was a coward.

at the end of the day no one yet knows what really happened so im reserving judgement but i think you will all agree prior to this he was a fantastic athelete and an outstanding showman and deserves respect for the things he did before this happened.

If you consider the evidence in that house - there is no possible way Benoit did not do it!!!!! People are always in such denial when stuff like this happens.
