Great question. I've wondered the same thing. And, unfortunately, between George Bush and those two STUPID talk shows, I do believe that many people outside of our country DO believe that we are stupid. I think America is a big joke right now. Hopefully, when we get a new president, (and if they would cancel those shows! which they won't because of $$$) hopefully, we will become a respected nation again. Love that question. You deserve a star. :) -L

Unfortunately they do. I do a lot of traveling in Europe, and they do have a serious misunderstanding of us. Even some of our shows that represent a real life story. They don't understand that Hollywood will over dramatize some things and will put events that were not a real part of the story in.
One person even told me that Michael Moor's so called documentaries were true to life. They thought that you can really get a gun from a bank for opening an account in America.
No wonder we get such a bad rap!!!

No, I actually think that Americans are very nice people and most of them are hard working people. I worked with many American colleagues and all I have is positive experience although it seems to me that they are a little bit “instructed what to think” by the media. We have lot of rubbish on our TVs as well but we are not all watching it. Our filthy shows can’t represent us as well. Other thing is what American government is doing around the world but American people are not much concerned i.e they don’t give a f… that their tax money is being spent on the bombs that were, for example dropped on my country in the recent decade although we did nothing wrong to them and we were even very good allies in the World War 2 rescuing thousands of American pilots from the claws of the same people American government was now supporting .16,3% of our people was lost in the WW 2 (Germany for instance lost around 6 %) and what we get in return, bombs. Who were they supporting, the same people they are apparently “fighting” globally at the moment.

No I do not think that at all. I have been to America and everyone I met was normal!! We have a show here called Jeremy Kyle and he gets some right numpties on there too. I think the people who go on these shows are just all sados or actors!!

If you had no concept of what America was, except for how Hollywood portrays us, then I would say it is a reasonable assumption that other countries would believe that most Americans are !!!morons?????

I'm sure that not all Americans are like that and I just hope that Americans don't judge England by Eastenders and Big Brother.
