Ohhhhh it was all about the times then!! I was a teenager when they arrived on the scene and they were something we had never seen before!! Totally new and original. Added to which our parents hated them - long haired yobs to them!! Which immediately made them even more wonderful in kids eyes. I guess its one of those things - you had to be there!

At the time the Beatles music hit regular air play in America ,we had the assassination of Kennedy,Communism, the Atomic threat and the country was in need of something to bring up the spirit.
In steps the Beatles with a new sound, and great lyrics.
Every album and single was something you waited for with anticipation.Headphones then added a special listening experience when the groups music was being influenced by drugs and hallucinates.
Put on a pair of headphones and listen the the SGT, PEPPERS album, maybe you will understand.

They were absolutely worth all the hype. They were new and different then and parents hated them! They also did things musically that would pave the way for future bands, things that had never been tried before. If you were to ask many of todays bands who their influences were many would include the Beatles in their list. How many bands can claim to have whole albums of hits? Not very many. The Beatles achieved that. I recently was lucky enough to see Ringo Starr in concert and he was just awsome. I was not around around for the hoopla, my era is the 70's & 80's, but I love the Beatles and appriciate their contribution to modern music. :)

All the hoopla was because they were fresh, different, something new to the entertainment arena. And, yes, you had to be there to feel their impact. Most of their music was good & still is today. Also, it seemed like they let us in on their personal lives right from the start. The haircuts were silly but they were down to earth guys with a lot of talent in each one of them.
And I'm a lot older then you, for sure, and not understanding some of hoopla about today's entertainers. So we're even.
I wish you well.

Yep, some of the 'I wanna hold your hand' type of stuff does sound cheesy, but it was all pretty new back then in the early 60's, there was nothing else like it about, asides from Elvis and maybe Cliff Richard........
But later on, from 65 onwards, they really started to experiment and go into areas never ventured before.
I would highly recommend listening to: Revolver from 66, Seargent Pepper from 67, The White Album from 68, and Abbey road from 69, just before the break-up. Some of this stuff is amazing.....
Fot more info visit: http://www.thebeatles.com/
But you MUST listen to the above albums........
GOOD LUCK!!

What is the hoopla about anything? A lot of people love the Beatles so a lot of people are going to express that by saying they love them. A lot of people love Harry Potter. A lot of people love Elvis. A lot of people love rap music. It may not be impressive to you, but it is impressive to millions of other people. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it has no merit. I don't like pecan pie, but millions love it. It is pointless for me to ask, "What is the hoopla about pecan pie? I know many people who rave about it, but I don't understand why they like it. I hate it." But just because I don't like it does not mean that it is a bad thing.
It is the same for the Beatles or whatever you like. There is no real answer why people like what they like. I don't know why I like the Beatles--I just do. The hoopla is that millions of people like them. Simple as that.

Well, it's all preferences. Just as some people like The Beatles, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin, I much rather prefer Nine Inch Nails, Tool, and Disturbed. *shrugs* I'm just not the type to enjoy older music and those types of lyrics they sang. Yes, SOME of those older bands' stuff is good (some songs are just classic), but it's just not my cup of tea.

They were ground breakers for the British invasion.
I do like there music, but after they broke up. They really never put out anything too impressive.
