My mother died two years ago, and now we are planning to move. While sorting through unopened boxes from her house (That we packed two years ago, while emptying her house) I came across a sweater she was very attached to, because it was the first present my father ever gave her. I like the sweater, and I have a lot of memories of her wearing it when I was a child. Now, it doesn't fit me, I can't button it, and I know she'd say, "It's a perfectly good sweater that some one else could use, even if it is 50 years old. Stop being so sentimental and give it to charity." Should I?

It sounds like it is something special to you. I know it is a material object, but I would keep it. Who knows maybe you will have someone special someday you can pass it on too. I know we can't keep every little keepsake, but if you feel attached to this keep it. My gut tells me you should.

if i was in your place, I wouldn't give it away...give money to charity in its place, but keep the sweater.
