The Dream Team these days would compose of a 12 man roster. However, some NBA players who had great careers are declining in terms of performance so it would not be fair to place these players on the Dream Team if they can no longer carry the load so I decided to create 2 different types of Dream Team. The first one, I'll call "The Career Accomplishments Dream Team" for those players who had great careers and would be the greatest team of this era assembled had the team been put together during these player's best playing days. Then I'll create a team called "The Prime Level Dream Team" for current players who still produce at a very high level and they represent the current NBA's best in terms of talent, competitiveness, speed, and skill. I won't include foreign talents playing for another country because that would not be America's Dream Team so guys like Dirk Notwitzki, Yao Ming, or Pau Gasol will be left off this roster.
The Career Accomplishments Dream Team
PG - Allen Iverson
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Kevin Garnett
PF - Tim Duncan
C - Shaquille O'Neal
Bench
Jason Kidd
Steve Nash
Gary Payton
Ray Allen
Trac McGrady
Chris Webber
Elton Brand
Alonzo Mourning
The Prime Level Dream Team
PG - Steve Nash
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - LeBron James
PF - Kevin Garnett
C - Tim Duncan
Bench
Baron Davis
Dwyane Wade
Gilbert Arenas
Paul Pierce
Carmelo Anthony
Jermaine O'Neal
Amare Stoudemire
Dwight Howard

If by Dream Team you mean a Team USA, then that takes away people like Nash, Nowitzki, Yao, Parker, etc. The members would be:
Centers - Amare Stoudemire, Dwight Howard
Forwards - Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer
Guards - Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Jason Kidd, Baron Davis, Tracy McGrady
Alternates:
Center - Shaquille O'Neal
Forward - Chris Bosh
Guard - Ray Allen
Arguments can be made for a lot of other guys as well, such as: Chris Paul, Allen Iverson, Michael Redd, Chauncey Billups, Jermaine O'neal, Gilbert Arenas, Deron WIlliams, Elton Brand. But hey, not everyone can make it, right?

Point guards: Jason Kidd / Chauncy Billups
Shooting guards: Tracy McGrady / Dewayne Wade
Small forwards: Lebron James / Kobe Bryant
Power forwards: Tim Duncan / Kevin Garnett
Centers: Amare Stoudamire
Utility: Shawn Marion, Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter
These aren't all true postitions, but a lot of these guys can play 2 and 3 positions.

We can name Kobe to the dream team and when we get overseas, we can revoke his passport and leave him there - problem solved!
