All of them are fairly reliable but they also require a degree of 'adjustment'.

I work in climatology / meteorology and one of the things we've been doing since 1997 is to compare weather forecasts with what actually happened. By and large there's about an 80% accuracy, pretty impressive considering the UK is one of the most hardest places for weather forecasting.

Weather forecasts largely originate from the same source - data from weather satellites, so whilst there's hundreds of different forecasts many of them come from the Met Office.

Forecasts for London and the south-east are generally the most favourable. For example, watch a weather forecast and the chances are that the highest temperatures will be shown as being in the south-east (not always). Yesterday was a typical example, the forecast showed highest temps being London, they were actually Luechars near Edinburgh.

As a rough rule of thumb - the south-east is rarely as good as forecast, Wales and sourthern England are often as forecast, northern England, Southern Scotland and Northern Ireland are generally a little better than forecaat and northen Scotland is often quite a bit better than forecast.

As for the best forecast - get the basics from any weather forecast then watch webcams to see how things really are developing, you should be able to then come up with your own pretty accurate forecasts.

Pretty good, really, considering that weather is a chaotic system, so forecasting is not an exact science. Funny, though, how it usually seems to rain for the Boat Show at Crick, Northamptonshire, where it has been tipping down today.

I find the most reliable weather forecast is from the National Weather Service.

weather casters sometimes get it wrong, just watch either then get another opinion (like weather reports from the net, or paper/ect)
