Have you ever been in a debating team?

Question

I'm in my school's debating team and so far we've had two debates: 'Popular Music has lost its meaning' and 'Capital Punishment has a place'.

So what topics do you like to debate about? Do you prefer being first speaker, second speaker or third speaker? Do you prefer being the affirmative or negative side in particular debate topics? Have you ever cursed the adjudicators' decisions as to which team won the debate?

I was in the debating team at my high school back in the early 90's. I was mostly the negative side on any subject that I could relate to...like music. Years have gone by and I am still a argumentative person!

I was in forensics in high school which is competitive debate and acting. i did inpromptu and exptemporaneous speaking. This was shortly after the Iraq war and elections, so all of the topics dealt with oil, bush, war, etc. I like to be the middle speaker, so the judges are holding back to hear everyone else, and they haven't heard everyone else.

i distinctly doubt they even rank them using fact they do no longer draw gross revenues to the faculty it prolly costs greater to take them from college to college then the income that comes from them competing. and to no longer be a dick yet whens the final time a debater have been given any acceptance?
