Dear friends, I just wanted to let you know that this weather is not normal in Greece, it is an extreme heatwave, so make sure you take precautions, like not going up on the Acropolis at mid-day, not making the tour of the centre of Athens on foot today, etc. I am saying this, because tourists expect Greece to be warm, so sometimes they don't realize this is something out of the ordinary, they think, "well, this is what Greece is supposed to be like, Greeks live here all the time, so we can make it too". But Greeks have been very careful for the past week, the TV says to stay in an air-conditioned area, we don't go out if we don't have to. This is an extreme temporary phenomenon. Fortunately, it will be better tomorrow and during the week-end we'll be fine. Go to the sea if you can, but wear a hat and sun-cream.

Good advise, most tourists think heat is normal in Greece and go to the beach,to the center of the town, for walks etc at all times of the day, when it's really dangerous and the sun so hot it burns straight through your skin.Always use a high sunblock and always wear a hat when after 10 o clock in the sun...And don't go to the beach between the hours of 11:30 and 16:00,why risk it??

Thanks for the advice. I had called over and told it was very hot this week but to be a bit cooler next week. Being from the state of Mississippi am use to very hot, humid weather and we also stay in from the weather like you are having.
I am fortunate to always be with Greeks and not have to worry about seeing all the tourist things in just a few days and doing all that walking during the day.
The others also need to be reminded to not over dress like they do in the states...drink plenty of water and nights to go out to see things..Greece is a country for night life so they won't miss anything.

Unfortunately this info is true. The heatwave is absoclutely horrendous and that is why they say to stay indoors in air conditioned spaces. For some though, that is not easy as they do not have air conditioned houses (My aunt being one of them)....I don't know how she ever does it! She is just used to it!

Good advice so hope its taken onboard. I would like to say, that drinking hot tea opens the pores and this helps to cool one down, the clod drinks close the pores and you wont cool as much as the hot drinks do for you. I love my tea when on holiday in such a beautiful country as Greece, mind you tea is not my only drink haha. Cheers.
