I have no idea. The video for "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" should have removed all doubt a couple of decades ago.

I was more shocked at the reaction of people that couldn't already see it. You didn't need to be a rocket scientist to work that one out, just watch any of the Wham videos!!

because he'd spent a lot of time sleeping around with women and it was shocking for someone to be out/ Even now it can ruin your career in certain areas

When he first showed up in WHAM! I was thinking....for sure he's gay...but he kept denying it.
then he breaks up WHAM and disappears for awhile and comes back looking like every girls bad boy dream image....and boy was he HOT! THEN.....he comes out and says he's gay....whats up with that?
I think he looks hotter now that he's out ...he looked like a pansy back in the days when he was in the closet.

I wasn't shocked, or bothered, even though I was a fan back then.
I liked his earlier music, not so keen on his recent stuff though.
