The 3rd movement of the Sonata in B flat minor "Marche funèbre" is structured as a funeral march played with a Lento interlude.
While the term "funeral march" is perhaps a fitting description of the 3rd movement, complete with the Lento interlude in D flat major, when the "Chopin Funeral March" is actually played (typically by a brass ensemble) in a funeral procession, only the part in B flat minor is used.

This "funeral march" adapted for brass as described, has become well known in popular culture, such as cartoons (like Ren and Stimpy) and video games, as well as its usage as the entrance music for American professional wrestler The Undertaker. It was also used at the state funerals of John F. Kennedy and those of Soviet leaders, including Leonid Brezhnev.
It was played at the graveside during Chopin's own burial at Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris.

The Sonata confused contemporary critics who found it lacked cohesion. Robert Schumann suggested that Chopin had in this sonata "simply bound together four of his most unruly children."

PS it's not a song! it's a piece of music

As a young kid in my native country, I've heard it played in all the funerals for the richer people whose families hired a band. The band would play the piece during the procession (the mourners did walk) from the church to the cemetery. I began to like it although it does sound depressing in parts. I didn't know classical music then, much less about Chopin.

gorgeous, but really depressing peice. There's a story behind it too, which probably isn't true, but it's still interesting. Supposedly, Chopin was deeply in love with this girl, and they were engaged to be married. At the last minute, the girl's father called it off because he thought that Chopin was too sickly (that part is true, Chopin suffered with tuberculosis through much of his life). Anyway, he expressed his grief by writing that particular sonata. Interesting story, but again, I don't know how much truth is in it.

I think it was a wonderful masterpiece with parts that showed signs of happiness, and sadness. As a child, I was gothic and macabre, and it was my favorite song. I still listen to it today. At least once a month.

Totally touching and moving. Difficult to reach all the notes but with practice, can be done.

To me, it is beautiful. That is my idea on it.
