Is there something on Japanese scene that sounds like Gackt, but with a female vocal?

I should probably say: I like that he uses a lot of real instruments: real piano, real electric guitar and drums... and not synth and drum machine, which I am hearing in most J-pop I have heard so far.

Japaneses female singers who attempt to do harder sounding music than pop struggle here. In general hard rock and rap are not well accept from women. It kinda goes against their cultural idea of how a woman should behave (quiet, cutsy, demur, weak). For example, I once played an Evanescence song for my Japanese English class. The most common comments from my students were that Amy was 'scary' and that it would have been cool if 'the singer had been a man'. The closest that a Japanese female singer comes to what you are looking for I think woul be 'Kana' (excellent instrumentation, but positively HORRENDOUS vocals) or Hitomi Yaida (who I like a whole lot better, but is more along the lines of Gwen Stephani, Alannis Morriset, Avril Lavien, etc). Anything heavier is really, really hard to find.

Boa- has a great voice, she has sang the opening song in both Kingdom Hearts and the opening in Serial Experiments Lain.

Yoko Ishida-one of my favorite singers, shes sang opening for various animes and other songs, she has a beautiful voice.

Ayumi-she has many great songs and a lovely voice.

Well, Ayumi Hamasaki's got a great voice. But she's more pop I think. Or there's Puffy Ami Yumi. Yeah, that's all I got.

I don't know -- but I think last.fm does a really good job of finding artists that are similar to things that I like
