if 60% were female, %40 were male.
50 * .4 = 20

since none of the males died, you need to figure out how many females you would need to make up 20% of the total population, which is a number higher than 20 but less than 50. if you use the guess and check method, you find that 5 females divided by 25 total fish = 20.833%.
5 / 25 = .2083

we already know that there were 20 males of the 50, so 30 must be female.
30 - 5 = 25

so...

x = original # of females
y = number of females that died
x/50 = 60/100
x = 30
50 - 30 = 20 male goldfish
(30 - y)/(50 - y) = 0.2
30 - y = 10 - 0.2y
0.8y = 20
y = 20/0.8 = 25 females died

(50*60%-x)/(50-x) = 20%

x= 25

a) (50)(.6)=30, so 50-30= 20 males

b) (50)(.6)= 30, (30)(.2)= 6 alive, therefore 24 died
