I have spent the last little while reading answers and was quite struck by the amount of people that like to get on and just put people down, calling them stupid and other worse names. Maybe some people aren't the smartest or the most interesting but does that mean they need to be attacked. Can't people just move on to something else.

Why? Is that rhetorical, so you can rant, or do you really want to know the answer?
The why is plain immaturity. They may be 16 or 60, but if they make a habit of being hostile and rude, I call that immaturity.

I agree to an extent. But then you get people who ask some really stupid questions and are asking to get mean responses, but i just ignore the stupid questions.

because that is how they are treated everyday. So they dont know how to be happy and bring forth positive influences.
People say they want change for the better but wont do their part.
all we can do is learn from them on how not to be.
