Depression is a commonly encountered psychiatric disorders. The person feels low and pessimistic and is likely to be irritable.
While many effective treatments are available, this disorder is often underdiagnosed and undertreated. Primary care providers should strongly consider the presence of depression in their patients; studies suggest a high prevalence of affective disorders among patients seeking medical attention in the office setting.
Frequency:
In the US: Lifetime incidence of MDD is 20% in women and 12% in men. Prevalence is as high as 10% in patients observed in a medical setting.
Internationally: Cultural influences on the presentation of depression can be significant. The practitioner should be aware of differences in the expression of psychological distress in patients from other countries or cultures. Some cultural patterns are mentioned in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR); for example, MDD may be expressed as fatigue, imbalance, or neurasthenia in patients of Asian origin.
Mortality/Morbidity: MDD is a disorder with significant potential morbidity and mortality, contributing as it does to suicide, medical illness, disruption in interpersonal relationships, substance abuse, and lost work time.

u feel that u don't want to do anything, u don't want to speak, u don't want to hear anybody speak, u feel an overwhelming need to cry, sometimes u really feel u can't move for some minuets, u lose ur tempers very easily, any repeated sound would drive u crazy (like the phone ringing or somebody coughing), nothing in the world interests u, u want to sleep for ever, u wish u could turn into an object that's not alive, u feel that life sucks and that u just want to die, u feel nervous and anxious and that something horrible is going to happen..

joy is non exist ant
a memory at most
yet unreachable.
being on the brink of tears every second of every minute of every hour of every day. Hopeless beyond words for eternity.
maybe R.K Rowling
described it best in Harry Potter
where the death eaters ( or the guards if that was the wrong name for them) would actually eat your air and suuuuuuuuuck "happy" right out of you.\
and you know what? people will do anything to "feel"
Yes, including suicide. There is a goal in suicide
and having a goal excites people.
imagine staring at a light for hours at a time, soon YOUR eyes burn and you look away. That's how some people see their life but they can't look away and it hurts. Anti depressants help your brain get some sparks an lift you out of that. People that speak out against antidepressants are sadists.
I take one myself, I am happy. :)

You really cannot know what someone else feels. Ever. Depression is commonly confused with sadness. Depression is something else. It often involves feelings of sadness, but it includes strong feelings of lethargy, as though it were too much effort to do anything. Some depressed people describe feeling unable to get out of bed. Depressed people do not feel happiness or enjoyment. They feel disinterested in engaging in activities that they previously enjoyed. It includes feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness.

I went through it for a short period of time. It was pretty terrible. Think of it this way. Ever have one of those days where you feel sad. Just sadness, nothing special about it. The only difference is, no matter how hard you try, no matter what you think about, you can't cheer yourself up. You're just sad, and there is no stopping it (other then medication, or drastic improvement in lifestyle).

You know how when you get sick and you feel crappy and don't want to go outside or do anything and nothing is funny and you just want to lay in bed all day? It's like that but for a really really long time.
