If I had the time I would tell you about their role in Muslim society. I think many have added their 2 cents.
As far as organizations go? Check out http://www.vday.org/main.html and http://www.equalitynow.org/
Two great organizations to begin with. They both have more links and info.
Hope this helps!

Well, in many Muslim countries, women are reaching very high positions and are given the power to lead. For example, in Jordan, Queen Rania is included in many political decisions affecting the country. In Bahrain, 2006 was the year where it was the first Gulf country of having a woman in the paliament. Also in Bahrain and in Kuwait also, there are Ministers who are women. The role of women in Muslim countries is becoming more important as the years are going by. There is no such thing as siacrimination, except in some few countries.

In Islam men and women are equal. Women can be teachers to teach the girls, lady doctors to take care of the women, girls, and small children, some work with computers, some are engineers though that is mainly a man's field. Most women prefer to take care of the home and raise the children. It varies from country to country. Women can get an education, can pray in a mosque though it is better for women to pray in their home, don't have to pray or fast when they are on their period, have the right to sexual satisfaction from their husband, have the right to work, have the right to keep any money they earn, don't have to contribute to the household income, have the right to vote, if they want something their husband has to go get it if he has the money, have the right to choose their own husband, have the right to choose a dowry(marriage gift) of their choice. In Saudi Arabia for example Muslim women can't drive but that has to do with culture not with Islam. Women are diamonds and gold in Islam. Women and daughters are treated like queens in Islam. In some Muslim countries if there is a line the men allow the women to go to the front of the line like in a grocery store or a bank and finish her business first and the men don't complain. Men are taught to respect and obey their mothers before their fathers though they should respect and obey their fathers as well. Men are also taught from birth to respect their wives, mothers, sisters and daughters.

there is two things: first there is not muslem societies because in islam man and woman are equal no difference at all, arabic countries the lows are picked from different ideology and unfortunately they add the title (Muslim country)
second one people behavior in Arabic countries the man is the dominate by ignorance (no good understanding the isl em) or voluntary and the result push women to claim there rights accusing the religion

An Arab woman and, or an Arab Christian woman, there is no difference between them, can go to work and study with out the permission of her husband and has been enjoying these basic rights long before feminism. They do not have to fork any of THEIR money over; it doesn't really matter how poor her husband is, unless she wants to, to help him support her and, or the kids. THAT'S HIS JOB; ironically that's what I call true freedom. The no contest divorce has been in full play amongest Muslims long before Western women ever fought for that right. *When an Arab woman obeys her husband it is nothing other than a symbol of devote respect, they do not look at themselves as being oppressed.

the Muslim countries are socially difrent even there are some differences within a specific country among varied social classes. I think we can not draw a general perspective that cover all of the Muslim countries. I live in Iran and here despite of some unfair differences in legal aspects the social position of women is acceptable. many of my unversity teachers both in Bachelor and M.A degree were women. in recent years number of girls attending universities rised slightly more than the portion taked by boys. for two years i worked in a firm that our manager was a women etc.

They are secondary to men. And valued less. And controlled and disrespected, with a second set of values for them. But it is the same in all countries! Don't pick on the Muslem countries. Take a look at any magazine stand in America and see what WE think of women. A bunch of naked fake boobs and bleached hair.
