Don't wait for local police to visit you, better visit the nearest police station where you stay meet the SHO & ask him if the passport office has send for police inquiry regarding you to them or not if they have, get the police inquiry done then & there it self, they may ask you to get two witnesses from your locality who know you for their witness for this inquiry. For smooth sailing for this police inquiry who may have to shell out few currency notes & things will be Okayed from the police side rest is upto the passport office to proceed with issuing of your passport. This is the best & easiest way to get the things done, merely visiting website regarding your passport progress will take you no where as this website is never up dated regularly which it should be, after all we live in India where how these stupid civil/public servants work every one knows.

Hi, I think you have applied for passport on 22nd May and waiting. You can track the status by using the website http://passport.nic.in/
1. Select the place where you have submitted your form. This opens up the new web page
2. Click the link " Know your Passport status"
3. Enter you form information and find out the status.
