Britain is a country that loves to be know as a place of safety and will welcome anyone, the government wont do anything to upset the EU, so its never going to happen. Accept the fact this country is finished, we have been sold out by our government, who have no interest in the people they were elected to serve, they look at the bigger picture, which is for them keeping wages down, cheap labour, and making the British people feel lucky they have a job, then tax them as much as possible.

UK border is already closed. You may have to tighten visa requirements and issueing work permits.Immigrants and their incoming will come down ,if the people accept a lower wages or a general wage reduction.Secondly the UK people should be prepared to work as nurses, doctors and other professionals. This requires changes in occupational patterns educational/training systems and with long term planning immigration can be controlled. There is no use in complaining.Higher wage rates attract immigrants.

Whilst I am still the new boy I am unable to give the Thumbs Up, but Kate Lomax would have had it if I was able to. We must look at things in a realistic world, we also live on an island with lots of ways to access it, whereas other countries not surrounded by sea have proper borders.

I know David Cameron would love me to leave the UK, if I wanted to, without even money, contacts, passport, I know that I could, so if I could leave then other people can enter, so instead of looking at who is going on and off our island would it not make more sense to look at what is actually happening on our island.

Racist & Immigration is a mine field, so surely it is better to judge all as an equal, sort out jobs so unemployment can go down, sort out skills so people capable of doing more can help build houses, the disabled could even be at home doing computer work. Things have changed and being stuck at home is no longer being excluded from the outside world.

Instead of looking at what people can't do look at what they can do, give people the chance to speak up and say I do want to work, sort out the working situation and the UK would not look so attractive to unskilled workers, sort out the skills that people have and we could have housing.

It really is ongoing but instead of answers and questions surely what the UK really needs is positive ideas....

The reason for the massive increase in immigration into UK over the past ten [10] years, is that the UK.gov need to persuade a reluctant public of the need for ID cards.

Apparently, if we all have an ID card, issued by UK.gov it will identify us to the Fuzz and other authorities. It will also, so I am told, reduce crime to zero.

What the UK.gov ID card will not do, is protect the citizen from illegal immigrants who may wish to stab them in protest for not being allowed to have the fabled ID card.

The UK.gov ID card is not valid as a passport and will therefore not be acceptable as proof of identity outside the UK, which does not believe in identity but thinks we should all have one, whether we like it or not.

Oh dear.... What would be the point in that? Don't close the borders, tighten border controls. Anyone turning up without proper authority to enter gets a free (as cheap as possible) trip back to where they came from.
Simple. How to chop down the numbers of immigrants simply by using the laws that exist already properly.

Yes. However the Europhiles in this government are hoping to eventually sway the vote in a referendum with the help of the immigrants. Just wait in 10 years the majority will be Brussels planted sleepers and the vote which was 70 - 80% against in 2000 will be down to 50%, or there abouts, and then Brussels will demand that we have a referendum on fully being dictated to by them.

There now needs to be some firm legislation on who is allowed entry into UK.
It would not be prudent for the UK to close borders as we have to trade and also as a member of the E.U we would not be allowed to do so.

Only close the borders if racists like the people here are abroad first, then that way you couldn't get back in. I don't think any of the racists here would be widely missed.

What we need is proper immigration control and a firm policy of repatriation of those who seek to enter this country illegally. Closed borders will not achieve anything except isolation.

controlled immigration, not close borders.
Brits emigrate as well you know!
one million British citizens have emigrated permanently to live abroad in the past six years alone.
