People are afraid of the unknown, or have anxiety over the unknown. That is human nature.
If you are a religious person, and believe in heaven and hell then no matter how much you adhered to your faith you are still apprehensive.
If you are an atheist, you might not fear it as much. However there still is the fact of the unknown. How will my death effect my children, my extended family, my loved ones. We also relish life, no matter how bitter it may be many times.
There are many things in life that are the bitter truth of life. That does not take away from the fact that we do no fear them.
We fear losing a member of our family, we fear of failing at our goals, we fear terminal illness, we fear when we get fired from our job, etc..
All of the above are fear of the unknown. It is human nature. Even animals fear death, it is a natural instinct instilled in all living things.

First of all, have you ever imagine being dead? Nothing we can do?Our body Rott? Put in a coffin, burried or cremate, or just simply thrown to the sea eaten by shark? Just imagining that condition only already make me feel so hopeless; then the soul, the one that now thinking, feeling, aware ..... what will happened to it? Is it just gonna go with the cells on the brain?
We know what will happend to the body, and we dont know what will happend to our soul. Which simply to say it's an unknown condition.
Some people say they dont scared because they have faith, and mind you that is easy to say when you are healthy or feel healthy. That is why we eat, we seek for medical treat when we feel there is something wrong, because we dont want to die.
Some people "give up"when they really think there is no way to escape or dead is better than alive. Even so, human when they sober, they try to avoid and try to extend their being. That is my opinion. That is being human.

Because we were asked to be afraid of death....
so that we can no longer commit a sin and only do good deed in our life...
it's not death that we afraid of, it's the next destination that we are unsure of...and it's the people that you had to leave behind and say goodbye to....

We are afraid of death because it is the great unknown... Is there an afterlife? Or do we simply rot in the ground? Plus, the idea of leaving our whole life behind and everyone in it is so freaking depressing that we fear the inevitable. It is the great fault of humans that we fear what we do not know...

I think it's because no one knows what's after death. We all have our own beliefs, but no one knows for sure. I think that it's not death that people are afraid of, but uncertainty.

I am not. But what I am afraid of is the process of dying, not death itself.

Fear of death is part of the instinct to survive. It compels us away from d anger. When most people are old and know they are going to die soon, they make their peace with their God and friends, enemies, and families. Then they die peacefully.
