I really like the name Anabelle for a girl. However, I can't stand that every third little girl is named Isabelle or Isabella. Do you think it is too close to that name?

Also, most Isabelle/Isabella's are called Bella. I would prefer that my daughter be called Ana over Bella since there are so many Bella's. Do you think if I start that at a young age that I can curb that or will that just form on its own? Any thoughts?

I guess the Isabelle/Isabella thing is a Northeast deal. I'm originally from Western PA and know of 5 people who have named their daughter that in the past 3 years. And I'm now in NYC and I hear the name constantly on little girls.

I think Anabelle is a beautiful name and not that common. And even though both names do have "belle" in it, Anabelle sounds different (lol). Start calling her Ana from the start, people will catch on. Good Luck!

The only thing that is remotely close between Anabelle and Isabelle/Isabella is the ending. I say go for it! It's an adorable name, and I honestly think it's very original. Perhaps it's where I live, but I've NEVER met an Isabelle/Isabella, but I've always loved the name [along with Anabelle].

Nope, Anabelle isn't too close to Isabelle, Anabelle is Anabelle. You can call her Bell, Bella, Ana, Elle, or Ellie, which ever one you wnat, and most likley she'll keep her childhood nickname but she can always change it to Bella later when she stricts her teenage years and everyone insists on calling her by that name.
Personally, i think is a wonderful name and you should name your daughter that if thats what you truly desire =]

If you like the name then I'd say go for it. If you want to call her Ana then she'll probably stick with that at least until she is a teenager and decides for herself what nicknames she likes best. If you just call her Ana all the time though then that will be normal and she'll introduce herself as that most likely. I don't think the name is that common. I guess I am starting to hear it a little more often but I don't think it is too common at this point.

It's not too close at all...just start out with the nickname at a young age. Also, it's not just the north east hun. I have lived in more states than I care to remember, I knew 7 girls in a 10 mile radius named Isabella.

I think that the names are really close and that they are going to get mixed up and calling your daughter ana might help a bit but it won't totally prevent the name bella from forming

If you like it, then use it...the only similarity is the ending. Any child you have will get a nickname or two, even if it's just a cute little name from grandma. Some will stick and some won't, you don't have much control over that. Call your children what YOU want to call them and that name will stick with them for the rest of their lives, as far as you're concerned!

I know more little girls named Anabelle over Isabell/Isabella.

It's a gorgeous name, none the less.

And as for a nickname, I think when you have your Anabelle she will decide when she gets into elementary school what her nickname will be.

A little idea that may help with that....if she had a couple dolls, or shirts, or blankets, something cute of hers, that had her name stitched in it for short "Ana" so when relatives and friends see it they'd get the hang of it maybe rather than calling her Bella? just a thought lol
