I think it was Oakland's best choice. They have been lagging behind for a few seasons now. They needed a new face to rally behind. That is why they needed a Qb because you just can't do the with a LG. While he had many problems Moss showed that a good WR wouldn't fix their's. Considering they are in the bloodthirsty AFC West I think Russell's speed creates the excitement their fans have been missing as well as covers up their holes better than Brady Quinn would.
While he has a good chance to not work out, Russell was the only option most of Raider's Nation would really give them at this point. (I honestly believe if Quinn had that much trouble at the draft, he couldn't handle a bad season there.)

Not really. The Raiders should have been smart here and traded because they have too many offensive needs and I dont think either Russell or Quinn can be franchise QB's. The Raiders should have traded and got 2 first rounders and selected Greg Olsen and Ben Grubbs. It all starts with the O-line. Look at last years draft with the Jets. Drafted 2 offensive linemen and went from 4-12 to 10-6. This draft had 2nd rounders like Beck, Kolb, Stanton and Edwards that would be good in Oaklands system. The Draft should have been.....
1)Texans-Calvin Johnson- Matt Schaub needs all the help he can get. He hasnt proved anything yet and has so much weight on his shoulders.
2)Lions-Brady Quinn(desperate for a good QB)
3)Browns- Joe Thomas(nothing different)
4)Buccaneers-Gaines Adams(nothing different)
5)Cardinals-Levi Brown(nothing different)
6)Washington-Amobi Okoye(Sean Taylor can shut down in the secondary, this team is desperate for some sacks.
7)Vikings-Adrain Peterson(nothing different)
8)Atlanta- Laron Landry(him and DeAngelo would be a killer duo)
9)Dolphins-JaMarcus Russell(Ted Ginn Jr? omg what idiots, they need a Qb, Green is too old and Culpepper is fragile as a fluorescent light bulb.
10-Raiders)-Greg Olsen(good blocker)

Defenitley. Just look at Daunte Culppeper. When Daunte was with Moss... all he had to do was chuck the ball up and it would be caught... thats why his stats were so ridiculously high. Albeit I think JaMarcus Russel is going to be a whole lot better than Daunte Culpepper and yes it is a risk, but look at how the risk known as Vince Young is turning out.
Now the Raiders don't have Moss, but in the next couple of years the Raiders won't be that much better and they will have the opportunity to draft a guy like Moss. But I really do believe Russell will be one of the best quarterbacks in the league in a few years.

The raiders made the right selection. Yes, Calvin Johnson could've easily been picked. Johnson was probably the best player. But, Johnson can't throw the ball to himself. Just ask Detroit's' three first round receivers. Russell has all the skills and size to be a great QB. His arm is amazingly strong. He can throw the ball 70+ yards in the air flat footed. His body is built like a linebacker. It would've been different if Oakland had a decent QB. The QB starts the offense, so if your QB sucks it doesn't matter who else is out there with him.

It was a weak draft. The Raiders needed a QB, have not had one since Gannon left, Russell has more upside the Quinn, and proved he can win a big game(Against Quinn, who looked clueless) No other QB was even in the ball park. A Rec would be useless with out a QB. There other biggest need would be Off Linemen, but no superstud O line in the field this year, and they could have used a RB but with out a line, there wouldn't have been much a reason. They didn't get offered enough to trade down, so yes

No. I also think they should have drafted Lienart last year. They would have paid a lot less money for a lot more QB. If Russell turns out to be the second coming of Culpepper, it will just mean the Raiders are paying premium money for an average(at best) QB.

no because if management would have done a better job they could have drafted a better quarterback last year like Matt lienart. last year was a much deeper draft at quarterback. if they would have done that they could have taking the best player in the draft which is Calvin Johnson. you have to build around a quarterback. he will not be very successful for at least 3-4 years from now. look at the past elway, Bradshaw, and Montana. didn't really break out until there 3 or forth year and the had a much better players around them then the raiders have now.

Absolutely not. I don't think Jamarcus Russel will be that great. He was soaring well under the radar until his "big game" against Notre Dame late in the season. The only problem was that the Notre Dame secondary was so weak that an 80 year old woman could have performed out there. I believe that Brady Quinn or Troy Smith would have been much better choices at the number one spot in the 2007 draft.

I have learned that just about every draft in every sport is a crap shoot. You just do not know until you actually have the guy in an actually game and everything is going at game speed to see how they will react. Some players step up some do not. Remember Maurice Clarett, the guy who wanted in early and Denver wasted a 3rd round pick on this waste of talent?

if i ran the raiders, i would have traded down to get OLine help. they could have gotten joe thomas, joe staley, ben grubbs, or levi brown and at the same time, get more draft picks. the other option i would have went with was draft calvin johnson and then get a QB like beck or edwards in the 2nd or do what the browns did and trade up for brady quinn. the raiders would have had calvin johnson and quinn instead they go with jamarcus russell who could be a potential bust. i mean he only had 1 good year at LSU and suddenly he is the savior of the raiders.
