In all honesty I hate to even bring this the Benoit tragedy up... It was a senseless and terrible thing that happened and that's the end of the story. However, it seems like some people (at least on Yahoo Answers) still try to see him as a person that should be remembered fondly and respected. I will not pretend that I know anything about wrestling or anything personal about Benoit because I do not. However, I just don't see how anyone can say that this guy was actually a good guy - especially after reading this quote I found in an MSN.com article that was written about the Benoit tragedy.
"The boy had old needle marks in his arms, Ballard said. He said he had been told the parents considered him undersized and had given him growth hormones."
Very sad stuff...

Sorry, guess I didn't frame it in a question - I was typing too fast... Thanks for all of the responses anyway. I did not know about his son's Fragile X Syndrome (shame on me for not researching thigns a little further) and I understand where the whole wrestler/dedication respect stuff comes in. Thanks for enlightening me on the wrestling world - Something I know very little about, obviously.

It is a tragedy: for the son and wife.
I completely agree with you, but I'm not sure what your question is.. I think people tend to glorify those who died, no matter how they died (like people ignored the fact that Anna Nicole- a golddigger, killed herself with drugs..)

I think this is a very sad event. Especially that his seemingly innocent wife and definitely innocent son were involved. I do feel bad for Chris Benoit. The fact that it happened over the entire weekend makes me think it was not the product of a rage of anger, but something deeper and more depressing. I personally think that Benoit probably had a lot of personal, psychological, and probably anger issues. It's sad that what happened had to happen. But, I do not think that Benoit should be held in high respect or looked at as a good person. No amount of problems can excuse killing your wife and son.

Well I used to Be a huge WWF + WCW fan I Still think of WWF as WWF not WWE I am so old school..
I have'nt been watching i the last 2-3 years ever since it went off free television & Billy Gunn &Chris Columbo got married in the ring
I was thinking "What the F**K" and stop watching it then.
when I was I was a huge Chris Benoit he would be in my top 10 easily along with Rey, Kane Goldberg, Stone cold the under taker and Billy kidman, Kevin Nash, Brett Heart, RVD, xpac & Raven when he had the Flock before he stopped being so Hardcore.
So when one of my favorite wrestlers does this if I had not
read it from that link I would have thought anyone was lying if they told me..
this is teh biggest shock of the year for me I think..

Look I know he went crazy in the end but like it or not Benoit was indeed a fine athlete and he showed a lot of passion for wrestling and it is this passion that people will miss. I personally believe that the fans just wanted to remember the wrestler who stood in the ring in Wrestlemania 20 and cried as he won the World Heavyweight Championship instead of the man behind the wrestler.

We're not saying he's really a good guy. We're saying that the performer that we knew from watching him on TV and perhaps even meeting him in real life was a good guy and an inspiration and hero to many. The real, behind-the-scenes Chris Benoit we will never know, and unfortunately we will only have this tragedy to try to determine who Chris Benoit really was.
It's a shame that sometime like this can overshadow a whole life of dedication and passion, but it does, for anyone.

He was obviously deeply disturbed. Maybe if he woulda got help then none of this would've happened. So sad. It's completely unfair to judge him for why we "think" he did this. Steroids or not, there was something going on inside his head, something we'll never. Something that could've possibly been avoided.
I also find it just a little cruel that Vince McMahon would call him a "monster". He obviously didn't think that the whole time he employed him. It's a disgusting, twisted, heart wrenching, thing that he did. But isn't it wrong that his industry & colleagues are turning their back on his memory? He was, according to alot of them, very respected & well liked & a great superstar. Now that everything is coming into light they want to banish his name.
Don't get me wrong, I do think murder is wrong. Of course I do. But this wasn't a fit of rage, this was more deliberated. I think he thought & thought about it untill he just broke. He had his reasons for doing it & we'll never know the whole truth. This story just makes me cry every time I see it. I have the deepest sympathy for everyone involved here. But I just don't see Benoit as a crazed maniac out to destroy his family. I do believe that he thought he was doing the right thing by releasing them all. I know that sounds kinda lame. But we have no idea what was going on in their lives behind closed doors.
He placed bibles by all the bodies so I think he wanted them to have peace. Just my opinion, food for thought

I agree, the responses I've seen have been pretty strange. Barry Bonds seems to be the most hated person in the world because he probably took roids in the past and is about to become the home run king. Meanwhile, Benoit kills his family and gets all sorts of tributes and glory for his career as a pro wrestler. I even saw people saying he should be inducted into the Hall of Fame??? Mark McGwire doesn't deserve the baseball HOF, but Benoit deserves wrestling's? I think the WWE will get a black eye with the public if they continue to pay homage to murderers. I know I'll get ripped for this opinion...but watch the WWE stock and see!

I personally QUESTION his MENTALITY at the time of the murders. The text messages are VERY detached and there is an article on Pro Wrestling's Daily News Source questioning his mentality at the time with "sources" from friends and family. If you would like the link, email me, Yahoo! is not allowing me to post it!!!!
He should be remember for the AWSOME wrestler he was and his wife remember for the contrubutions she made as WOMAN! They BOTH deserve to be inducted into the Hall of Fame next year!!!!
Also who is to say that their son didn't have a medical condition. Right now everyone is driving to conclustions, but NO ONE has ALL FOUR TIRES on the GROUND!
There are still toxology reports to come back and again I still think he was just mentally ill and snapped. He may have thought they were a threat and when he "snapped out of it" couldn't live with what he did, sent the texts, and killed himself.
It was also said that the texts were recieve SEVERAL hours later. Nancy was killed sometime late Friday, his son on Saturday, and himself late Saturday/early sunday (again from Pro Wrestling's Daily News Source). I honestly don't think with as big of a family man as he was, that he killed his wife in the living room and then "kept his son quiet all day saturday" before killing him. I think their deaths are a little closer then everyone thinks and then Benoit killed himself much later.

Chris Benoit's son had Fragile X syndrome, which might be why the son was being given growth hormones.
I can't say whether or not he was a good guy, since I didn't know him personally. Yes, what he did was awful, but he had a good career and I will respect him for the career that he had.

I just see what you r saying it was senseless to murder his wife and their son then take his own life. Im trying to remember him that he was a great superstar but what he did i think he couldve gotten help instead of taking his life wife and childs life i wish he couldve handled it way differently instead of this tragedy.
