Being as my beloved twins went into the 12th inning today (beating toronto! woohoo!) it got me wonder, what is the most innings that a game has gone into in the mlb? I'm sure i could look it up, but i want to see your answers! (plus this is more fun! thanks!)

The Brooklyn Robins (now Dodgers) visited the Boston Braves, and they played 26 innings to a 1-1 tie on 01-May-1920. Both starting pitchers went the distance.

That's the longest game, by innings, in major league history.

Retrosheet doesn't have the boxscore (yet), but here's a copy from an article: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FCI/is_11_59/ai_66010624/pg_2

For MLB 26 innings. It was a tie game, too. For decided games-25

EDIT:

In AAA the teams played 32 innings, stopped the game and finished two months later after 33.
