Personally, I can throw a boomerang, coz I got one as a souvenir when I went to queensland and think they're awesome. Most Aussies though, can't, most aboriginals probably can't either because the boomerang was only invented by the tribes in the state of Queensland (that's to the north-east). It's not hard to learn though, just hold it like a gun with the curve facing you, get a run-up and throw it over your shoulder (there are other ways too though). Most boomerangs don't come back, they were used for hunting (big heavy ones were thrown at the legs of kangaroos which would cripple them) the aboriginals also invented the returning boomerang which was just meant as a toy for kids and it still is today.

No as a whole Australians have no idea. One of my best mates hand manufactures them for a living and throws in competitions. His grandfather also hold the record for the biggest boomerang ever thrown and returned. Until recently I didn't even know that rather than trowing them parallel to the ground, you should throw them up right.
Here the website and diagram if you want to check it out:

Well aborigines invented the boomerang and it didn't come back. Instead they they it at animals with good accuracy and killed them.

Damn straight (no pun intended) I can mate. If ya want to eat in the outback ya got to be able to kill yer tucker. As for the city slickers, they just hit them with their 4x4's.

I live in Baltimore Maryland, so obviously I have no idea. I just clicked on this question to read how Aussies ( is that right? ) talk. Not making fun ' mates '. I enjoy reading it.
