You will need a passport to get back into the US after traveling from the Virgin Islands. Let me take that back...you will need a passport to get back into the states if you go to the British VI.

If you are from the US you can go to the US virgin Islands without a passport, but you do need a passport to go the British virgin islands.

For the British Virgin Islands, yes
However, I would STRONGLY recommend getting a passport and using it anyway since it will facilitate your travel.

You will not need a passport if you travel to the Virgin Islands this year. However, the U.S. government is passing a law that will go into effect next year requiring ALL U.S. citizens to have a passport if they're traveling outside of the U.S. Hope this helps! ;)

ctelly is right, nick is wrong.........the United States Virgin Islands are the United States, so US citizens and green card holders will never need a passport to travel here....
but you will to travel to the BRITISH Virgin Islands

I am going to St. Thomas over Christmas break and my travel agent advised me that a passport is NOT required. Hope this helps!
