The listing also says that the supercharger (engine I guess?), was rebuilt within the last year.

The first thing i would do is try using Premium fuel. If its not that It might be a valve or a rocker or worst case a piston, any of those can be a pretty expensive fix.

This is a bad thing. It is a lifter rod and it means the engine is bad. It will just be a matter of time before that lemon kicks out on you. A new engine may cost $800-$1200. That normally is a pretty good engine if it is the 3800. Sounds like trouble it should not be knocking!

Rods or valves? Knocking generally means the engine could seize up at any time and to correct the problem would require removing and dismantling the engine.

If it is a knocking keep on a looking.Don't buy it the car can not be that good of a deal you will be putting a lot more money in it and it will use a lot more gas if it is not working in the best of condition.

going straight to the heart if its a loud knock coming from the bottom of the engine its probably a thrown rod bearing

The car seems to be a wreck. Unless it is super cheap, don't bother. There are many problems with it, not just a knock.

Spun crank bearing. (knocking)
Lifter, or valves? = (tapping)

ADDED:
Could also be "detonation" in the cylinder from crappy gas, or incorrect ignition timing, or bad knock sensor.

it could be anything from a $2 spark plug to a $2000 bad motor - don't buy it unless your willing to pay

please do not consider buying a vehicle that has a knocking engine. It is likely that you hear worn lifters knocking and you don't want that headache
