You can chose from either the NBA, the NFL, or the MLB.

I live in Chicago, and I would say the absolute worst franchise ever is the Blackhawks. Nobody goes to see them, nobody talks about them, and nobody cares about them. The owner actually jacked up ticket prices to over $50 when nobody even went. They are outdrawn every single night by a landslide by an AHL team, the Wolves. They dont even want to get better either. Just saying the name "Blackhawks" makes people laugh. They are the worst sports franchise.

Another possible say would be the Detriot Lions, and possibly the Baltimore Orioles, but lets see what you come up with.

Alright, when i first read the question i immediatley thought of the Detroit Lions. My reasoning was not only that they have never won a super bowl, but that they have never even been to one.

However, I stopped to think, and there are several teams in football who have never won super bowls. The Patriots and Steelers fans of the world have truly been blessed with their football teams. The Yankees and Marlins (despite their crap stadium) have had a lot fo success in recent years in baseball. In the NBA, Lakers and Spurs.

So those are the best of the best, but in order to find the worst you have to narrow it down in each sport.

Before last year I would have rushed to say the tigers were a terrible franchise but that has since changed so I can't attack another Detroit city. The Cubs are a dissapointment year after year but the Chicago faithful keep that team going so i ca't say they are the worst. I think the biggest embarassment in baseball has been the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals. Not even a change can give this team a hope.

In Basketball, despite their recent upcoming i have to say the Toronto Raptors have been the biggest waste of a team. However, their future is bright.

In the NFL the Lions, Cardinals, and the Browns are all in despair and a long way from getting out of it. I do, however, think the Lions are the worst team in professional football.

So my initial thought was the Detroit Lions. However, after carefully considering the teams and their past histories.......

....

I'm still going with the Lions. I'm already pulling out my paper bag for next year.

Now you said the blackhawks but you said we couldn't choose from the NHL. I may have to agree with you if i was aloud to choose from the NHL. It seems like every team in the NHL occasionally gets a whif of the playoffs, except for the blackhawks... being a red wings fan i can not imagine the agony you go through each and every year... i feel your pain man...

Current: Boston Celtics. This team is a mess, and while there may be teams that actually play worse, the Celtics take the prize because it's not that long ago they were one of the premier organizations in sports. It's as if they still haven't recovered from the death of Len Bias, yet there are players in the league who weren't even born at that time.

All-time, single season: Cleveland Spiders (1888, I think). So bad, they were literally run out of town, playing most of the second half of the season on the road.

All-time period: I would discount any recent expansion teams for lack of history, so let's say the Montreal Expos. A quarter century and not even one post-season appearance. After Gary Carter, their best players were Rusty Staub, Andre Dawson, and Bill Lee. Nobody cared when the team moved and they probably didn't even notice since nobody was going to the games anyway. Truly telling story: In the final seasons, scalpers (if you can call them that) were selling tickets for LESS than face-value. Seems the team had resorted to offering big discounts for bulk purchases, but you have to figure the scalpers couldn't sell all of the tickets they bought, so the discounts must have been huge.

Ouch, I'm a Lions fan man ha ha.

Worst in history...hmm, Well, Due to the lack of history with this team they will take it in a landslide..I guess.

Columbus Blue Jackets. I think they are worse than the Blackhawks. I live in Columbus, It's basically the same there here. When our so called "fans" go its due to a new rookie, for example, Sydney Crosby, or there other favorite team. I only go to see the Ottawa Senators, since they are my NHL team. The Second half of the Jackets' season was a weak one in attendance also. I don't know if it was as bad as Chicago's, but it was really bad. They were never a good team though in there short 6 years history though so, I'll go with them

As to the Lion comment, ha ha, I wouldn't rank them worst in history, the only reason we suck is because the franchise started as a small time club in Portsmouth Ohio. All Ohio Pro sports teams suck. Like the Jackets..

Well, the Orioles are surpassed by the Royals in baseball so that doesn't synch. The Lions at least have a fan base. hmmm... the memphis grizzlies couldn't win with Jerry West running the show. Thats some kind of bad. The Cubs have gone how long? without a championship. The Los Angeles Kings couldn't win with Gretzky in his prime. But I have to say the columbus Blue jackets even there mascot sucks.

You can't say the Orioles. They are bad now but have been great at times. I would say the Browns are toward the top of the list of the worst, right up there with the Nuggets of the NBA. I think the Cubs have to be mentioned too though because they haven't won a championship in almost a century (1908 was their last World Series).

I would probably go with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays or the Arizona Cardinals. These two teams are absolutely horrid, and I would be surprised if either team won a championship in the next 10 years.

NFL-In 1976 the Buccaneers went 0-14. The margin of defeat was 20 points per game. Their QB only threw 7 TD's all season.

Well I hate to say this, but it just may be the Arizona Cardinals. They are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL since their beginnings in Chicago, to St. Louis and the AZ, they have one thing that they have been consistent at, losing!
