Neither. It gives him/her incentive to scrutinize every ascpet of your work under a microscope.

Not a particularly wise thing to do.

As a professor I can tell you I don't take very kindly to 'insults,' or undergraduate students who think they know more than I do and act extremely arrogant. Doing so is a good way to earn a bad grade in a class ...

For instance, if I'm trying to decide if I should give a student a B or B- for a final grade, and its right on the fence -- if its a student that treats me with contempt and insults me I would opt for the lower grade (every time).

Even if you don't agree with your professor you should still respect them ... it is a position that deserves respect (especially if you're a student). You'll understand if (or when) you earn a Ph.D.

Yes, I would think so. I have had my share of some horrible and stupid professors. You're best bet is to just deal with them and after the semester is over go to the department chair and file a complaint. Or, you might want to drop the course all together.

Here's a great site where you can see how former students rated their professors before classes start! Good luck!

If you have a disagreement, state it maturely and calmly and respectfully.

Sometimes the TAs will make mistakes while grading. (Yes, the TA is grading your assignments, not the professor. TAs have to do *something* to earn their money.) If you see a mistake, report it to the professor, and you might get your grade raised.

I did that after my second midterm exam in intro physics, and I was rewarded by having my grade raised by 20% (in other words, giving me back nearly all of the points the TA took off).

If the insult was delivered intelligently, sure. If you sound like an idiot, the prof will either smile, laugh, roll his/her eyes, or some combination thereof.

Don't worry they will get their revenge when they grade the next exam. You can guess who is not going to get a break on any borderline-correct answers.
